SWEDISH MASSAGE

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as gliding, rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, greater flexibility, and a general sense of well-being.

deep tissue & trigger point therapy

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to ensure the client’s comfort.

Trigger Points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

Keep in mind that soreness is common after these treatments, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Pre- & post-natal Massage

Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially developed for the expecting mother, Prenatal Massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation. While it is within a Licensed Massage Therapist's scope of practice to provide Prenatal Massage in New York State, Miriam has an additional Certification in Pre- & Post-Natal Massage and loves providing ongoing support for women throughout all stages of the birthing process and long after.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct Myofascial Release is sometimes also called deep tissue. Indirect Release applies lighter pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain. Little or no oil is used. Multiple sessions are recommended to benefit fully from the effects of this powerful work.

Hot stone & aromatherapy

Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are used as tools to warm up the tissues and placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very grounding, nurturing, and rejuvenating.

Each essential oil used in Aromatherapy Massage has different properties. For example, some calm while others energize. The essential oil is added to a carrier oil (coconut, almond, or grapeseed) and applied on the body according to the needs of that area. When inhaled or applied to the skin, the various essential oils accesses the limbic system in the brain to either reduce anxiety, promote healing, boost cognitive performance, ease depression, reduce pain, induce sleep, improve digestion, increase circulation.

cannabidiol (CBD) infused massage

CBD is one of 113 cannabinoids found in the cannabis sativa, or marijuana, plant. Unlike it’s sister-property THC, it has no psychoactive effects. Research on the beneficial properties of CBD is growing rapidly and has shown it to be an anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, neuroprotective, antioxidant, analgesic, muscle relaxant, and contains anti-psychotic activity.

CBD has been shown to be effective towards treating particular types of muscle disorders (like dystonia), insomnia, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease among many others. It especially has been found to have high interactions with pain pathways of the spinal cord and brain.

A CBD-infused massage with Miriam Nadia will leave you, in a word, inspired.

Merriam Webster’s Inspirational History of Inspiration

Inspiration has an unusual history in that its figurative sense appears to predate its literal one. It comes from the Latin inspiratus (the past participle of inspirare, “to breathe into, inspire”) and in English has had the meaning “the drawing of air into the lungs” since the middle of the 16th century. This breathing sense is still in common use among doctors, as is expiration (“the act or process of releasing air from the lungs”). However, before  inspiration was used to refer to breath it had a distinctly theological meaning in English, referring to a divine influence upon a person, from a divine entity; this sense dates back to the early 14th century. The sense of inspiration often found today (“someone or something that inspires”) is considerably newer than either of these two senses, dating from the 19th century.
